My name is Rupert Thomas (Bobby to family and friends) and I work as a Sales Agent for Bonnin Sanso: I love my job but above all I really like playing Padel in my spare time I like all ball sports in general and find that they help me to disconnect from the routine of my day to day working life.Through sport I have met and made many new friends.

I began playing just over three years  ago. I train once a week in the Tennis and Padel Club S’Algar and some weekends I play tournaments all over the Island.

My Padel partner Samuel Perez, my trainer Frans Marti and I

Each club on the Island has its own tournament but the most important is the MPT  (The Menorcan Padel Tour) circuit which every three or four weeks is played at a different club: players earn points at each tournament and at the end of the year the player with the most points is the Winner!! This is a reward for being the most consistent player. There are five levels of Padel in Menorca. I have played and won in category 3 and 4 so I am now obliged to play this year in category 2 and will now come up against some very stiff competition. I’ll let you know how I get on!! Padel is a relatively new game; the first organized tournaments were in the eighties.

The name of the game comes from the English word “PADDEL” because of the shape of the racket used to play with, in the nineteenth century a type of tennis was played on board ship in a small enclosed area for the entertainment of the passengers. It’s also known that during the first quarter of the twentieth century a game referred to as “PADDLE TENNIS” was played in New York.

Have I persuaded you to put your name down for a game with me?
