{"id":10348,"date":"2022-06-23T16:36:27","date_gmt":"2022-06-23T14:36:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/?p=10348"},"modified":"2022-06-24T16:38:30","modified_gmt":"2022-06-24T14:38:30","slug":"enjoy-menorcas-patron-saint-festivities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/enjoy-menorcas-patron-saint-festivities\/","title":{"rendered":"Enjoy Menorca\u2019s Patron Saint festivities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Summer in Menorca also symbolises the commencement of the traditional festivals, and after two years of pandemic situation, there is more longing than ever to be able to celebrate them.<\/p>\n<p>The first date is the Saint Joan\u00b4s festivals, on June 23 and 24 and as from the third weekend of July, it is followed by all the other towns on the island, up until the festivals of Mare de D\u00e9u de Gr\u00e0cia in Mah\u00f3n, between September 6 and 9, which marks the end of the summer.<\/p>\n<p>These local festivities have been celebrated since the fourteenth century, the main protagonist being the horse, normally of a Menorcan breed, to which the riders \u201cCaixers\u201d make them stand on its back hinds and lift their front hoofs for a number of seconds, in the well-known Jaleo.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10345 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Fiestas-Sant-Joan-Menorca.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"3344\" height=\"2400\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The main \u201cCaixers\u201d who lead the celebration at each festivity are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cFabioler\/a\u201d, the first member of the horse procession, known as \u201cqualcada\u201d, rides a donkey and plays a melody with the flute known as \u201cFabiol\u201d and the drum.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCaixer Fadr\u00ed\u201d, the single gentleman, who holds the flag that represents each village.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCaixer Casat\u201d, the married gentleman.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCaixer Pag\u00e9s\u201d, the farmer gentleman.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cSa Capellana\u201d, the priest.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCaixer senyor\u201d, the major, who leads the festivity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Another large number of \u201ccashiers\u201d, who want participate in the festivity, also join this horse procession preceded by the main cashiers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10344\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Fiestas-Sant-Cristofol-Menorca.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"2938\" height=\"3764\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The customary food served during the Patron Saint&#8217;s festivities is \u00abSa coca amb xocolati\u00bb, a round sweet cake that is dipped in hot chocolate, along with all the other traditional menorcan sweet and savoury pastries such as pastissets, formatjades, rubiols.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>If you come to visit Menorca, don&#8217;t forget to try them, you are definitely going to want to take some back with you!.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to live the experience of these Patron Saint\u2019s festivals, following is this year\u2019s calendar<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sant Joan of Ciutadella: 23 and 24 June<\/li>\n<li>Saint Mart\u00ed of Es Mercadal: 16 and 17 July<\/li>\n<li>Saint Antoni of Fornells: 23 and 24 July<\/li>\n<li>Saint Jaume of Es Castell: July 24, 25 and 26.<\/li>\n<li>Saint Crist\u00f2fol of Es Migjorn Gran: 30, 31 July and 1 August<\/li>\n<li>Saint Gaiet\u00e0 of Llucma\u00e7anes: 6 and 7 August<\/li>\n<li>Saint Lloren\u00e7 of Alaior: 13 and 14 August<\/li>\n<li>Saint Climent of Sant Climent: 20 and 21 August<\/li>\n<li>Saint Bartomeu of Ferreries: 23, 24 and 25 August.<\/li>\n<li>Saint Llu\u00eds of Sant Llu\u00eds: 27 and 28 August<\/li>\n<li>Mare de Deu de Gr\u00e0cia of Ma\u00f3: 6, 7, 8 and 9 September.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Happy festivies to all!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summer in Menorca also symbolises the commencement of the traditional festivals, and after two years of pandemic situation, there is more longing than ever to be able to celebrate them.
