Some people can make you laugh for an afternoon. Others stay with you for half a lifetime.

Few figures embody that second category better than Josema Yuste. Actor, comedian and one half of the legendary comedy duo Martes y Trece, he has been part of the lives of millions of Spanish households. His characters, impersonations and New Year’s Eve specials shaped several generations and turned humour into a shared language across the country.

But behind that career lies a much less familiar story.

In this new episode of Charlas que Inspiran, we sit down with a man who chose to follow his calling even when not everyone believed in him. A boy who lost his mother at just nine years old, an actor who admits he still feels nervous before stepping onto the stage, and a person who, after almost fifty years in the profession, continues to look at life with the same curiosity he had when he started.

Our conversation explores some of the most important moments of his career, from his early beginnings to the phenomenon that was Martes y Trece, but it soon goes far beyond comedy.

We talk about the passage of time, how Spain has changed, the freedom to make comedy, the fear of failure, the evolution of television and a question that is being asked more and more often: what has happened to us as a society?

Josema also shares his connection with Menorca, an island he has known and appreciated for many years, and reflects on what we should still strive to protect: peace and quiet, authenticity and a way of life that is becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Throughout the episode, we discover a warm, honest person who is deeply grateful for the affection he has received throughout his career. A man who sees humour as a way to bring people together, offer relief and provide companionship, especially during the most difficult moments.

Because laughter has never been just a form of entertainment.

It is also a way of resisting.

It is also a way of understanding life.

And perhaps that is why listening to someone who has spent almost half a century making people smile reminds us that behind every great comedian, there is always a story worth telling.

If you want to discover the more personal side of Josema Yuste and hear the reflections of someone who has witnessed Spain’s transformation first-hand, don’t miss this new episode of Charlas que Inspiran.

Now available on YouTube and Spotify.
