On the skyline of the island of the five lighthouses, as the writer Ferran Ram\u00f3n Cort\u00e9<\/a>s christened Menorca in an essential book for communication professionals, the lighthouse set on the islet of Isla del Aire occupies a special place.<\/p>\n

This is because in its time it was considered the highest lighthouse in the Balearic Islands (fifty-three metres above sea level), or because its inhabitants are black endemic lizards that have mimicked the colour of the islet to confuse predators. The Isla del Aire has always been a much-loved spot of the Menorca coast and also one of the most photographed.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Located in southeast Menorca, it is just a few miles from the beach of Punta Prima, the south coast of S\u2019Algarand given its relative closeness, has become an ideal spot for observation trips of the lizards as well as the lighthouse. It is well worth hiring a boat and making the trip. The islet measures only thirty-four hectares and to preserve the territory, it is recommended not to leave the marked path.<\/p>\n

One of the best places to see it from is another historical vestige that forms part of Menorca\u2019s heritage. It is an old defence tower built in 1786 during the Spanish domination of the island that was restored as a summer camp centre a few years ago. From the upper part of the tower you can take in our lighthouse surrounded by a degradation of impressive blues.<\/p>\n
