{"id":7461,"date":"2018-10-15T12:16:51","date_gmt":"2018-10-15T10:16:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/?p=7461"},"modified":"2018-10-15T12:16:51","modified_gmt":"2018-10-15T10:16:51","slug":"the-travel-discount-for-residents-increases-to-75","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/the-travel-discount-for-residents-increases-to-75\/","title":{"rendered":"The travel discount for residents increases to 75%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>air and sea connections for those who live in Menorca<\/strong> are a little <strong>cheaper since last July<\/strong>.\u00a0 The Central Government, through its Council of Ministers, have approved an increase to the <strong>subsidy<\/strong> of the tickets <strong>to 75% for the island residents<\/strong>, the purpose being to make it easier to travel to the mainland.\u00a0 Up until now the discount was 50% but with this rise it is hoped that it will be noticed in the pockets of the Menorquins.\u00a0The discount <strong>applies to the general price of tickets but doesn\u2019t affect the airport taxes<\/strong> of which 100% will still have to be paid.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5781\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/aeropuertomenorcaaldia.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Undoubtedly this is very good news for all those travelling to and from Menorca.\u00a0 The consumer associations have, however, shown their concern about whether the airlines take advantage of the price of their tickets because of the lack of transparency of the online booking system. This requires you to indicate whether you are resident or non-resident before purchasing a ticket and which could overshadow this increase.<\/p>\n<p>The ones who criticize this measure the most think <strong>the best solution would be not to increase the subsidy<\/strong> to the passengers since it is already a subsidy to the airlines <strong>but establish a fixed rate for residents and non-residents thereby invigorating the Menorcan economy<\/strong>. The problem is that the European Union does not allow this type of practice since it assumes unfair competition between territories.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The air and
