{"id":8184,"date":"2019-08-23T11:15:36","date_gmt":"2019-08-23T09:15:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/?p=8184"},"modified":"2020-08-17T12:21:43","modified_gmt":"2020-08-17T10:21:43","slug":"the-before-and-after-of-an-old-apartment-in-the-centre-of-mahon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/the-before-and-after-of-an-old-apartment-in-the-centre-of-mahon\/","title":{"rendered":"The before and after of an old apartment in the centre of Mah\u00f3n"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Restoring an old apartment in the centre of Mahon<\/strong> and bringing it back to life and use after years of abandonment is always good news.<\/p>\n<p>Today we wanted to explain how a home that had been uninhabited for more than 20 years, was given a second chance; providing a <strong>new home, not only with character and history, but with all the modern comforts we expect today.<\/strong> Its owner, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irg.es\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><em>Ignacio Romera, is an architect specializing in home renovation and energy efficiency<\/em><\/strong><\/a> and his vast experience made it easy for him to see the potential of the property.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/the-method-from-cold-play-to-pinyeta-pinyol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Our sales negotiator, Jose Pons<\/em><\/a>, knew straightaway what Ignacio was looking for<\/strong> &#8211; something economical in the centre of Mahon that had charm even though it was in a state of disrepair.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>His aim was to enjoy the process of rehabilitation that lay ahead.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>After only viewing four or five different properties, this expert decided on one of the apartments that Jose had shown him and in less than a month he had signed the contract in front of a notary and started the renovation work needed before being able to rent it out.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8171\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/01-Comedor.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1971\" height=\"731\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8173\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/02-Comedor-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"706\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8180\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/06-Cocina-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"705\" \/>He had no intention of carrying out major works, just <strong>cleaning and removing anything that had been added to the property over the years<\/strong> such as false ceilings, old PVC friezes on the walls and other additions thus exposing the essence of the building.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He put <strong>a lot of effort into the terrace<\/strong> which unfortunately couldn\u2019t be used as it was full of obstacles such as old chimneys, water tanks and television aerials. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8172\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/10-Terraza.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2500\" height=\"575\" \/>The <strong>next phase of the project<\/strong> was to bring in more natural light, fit out the home and insulate it to achieve the greatest possible comfort and make it more efficient.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The <strong>final touch was the interior design<\/strong> and now with a blank canvas he chose a modern decoration which contrasted with the age of the building.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He gave it a hint of the past by strategically placing some old objects that had been found in the apartment.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8174\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/03-Salon.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"706\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8175\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bonninsanso.com\/discoverymenorca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/04-Salon-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"710\" \/>His <strong>main objective was to preserve everything identified with the apartment and to create open, bright and comfortable spaces<\/strong>.
