Adopt a beach in Menorca

Menorca’s GOB Association (Balearic Group of Ornithology and Nature Defense) has launched a campaign for the adoption of beaches aimed at groups of volunteers who wish to help clear away plastics from the beaches and all kinds of waste that seriously affect the ecosystems. This program was announced on September 15th and at present more than 90 beaches have already been adopted, by 79 groups, with more than 800 volunteers.

The groups of volunteers must carry out at least 4 visits to the adopted beach throughout the year, thus contributing to the maintenance and well-being of the Menorcan coastline.

The main objectives of this program are:

  • Raise awareness of the numerous problems that the coastline faces, such as solid waste and microplastics contamination.
  • Use procedures and organize volunteers to create public awareness and take full advantage of the actions taken.
  • Promote teamwork and show the importance of maintaining and protecting the sea and its ecosystems.

In summary, it seeks to involve the public in the protection and conservation of Menorca’s coast and sea and support the knowledge and commitment of the marine environment people.
