Family outing in Camí Reial

The Camí Reial was one of the old connection routes between Maó and Ciutadella, that crossed all the villages situated in the centre of the island, it is believed that it could have its origins in the Roman age.

The section of the Cami Reial in Ferreries was recovered during the 1990s thanks to volunteers who dedicated time and effort to clean it and make it safe, as a result of the collaboration of the town’s entities, the Cami Reial has been preserved and its history can be enjoyed.

The length of Cami Reial is 3.5km of pure nature, 80% of which runs under the forest, rich in vegetation.  During the tour you can enjoy the wide variety of plants, trees and animals in their natural habitat.

How to get there?

You can begin the route at the cemetery in Ferreries, where you can easily park your car.  Then head towards Cala Galdana, and just as you leave the roundabout on the right, you can cross the road towards the lane.

To arrive at the beginning of the Camí Reial, we must continue along this path, climb the steep slope of the Sant Gormeset’s path and when we reach the top, on the right hand side we will see an entrance with a small sign, indicating the start of the Camí Reial.

During the route you will discover the wide variety of vegetation and points of interest such as Es Pou of Sa Perdiu Blanca or Sa Cova Real.  A cave not too big, accessible to its interior and that was formerly used as a shelter in case of bad weather.

Once you have climbed the well-known Cuesta de na Salema, you will arrive on the paved road to Algendar, this is the point where the route of Camí Reial ends.  Should you wish to prolong the excursion, you may continue, heading down to the Barranco de Algendar.  Another lovely excursion that we will soon give you all the details of.

Enjoy the walk and the landscape! And don’t forget to tag @discoverymenorca in your photographs.
