In its seventh year the Live Rock Festival of Menorca is here – a summer date with music, arts, theatre and dance consolidating the diverse cultures that flood the island in July and August. This is a festival not to be missed with its diverse events and because its main stage is in the stone quarries of Lithica, Ciutadella and with the talents of its artistic director, Joan Taltavull and his team including Anna Gomes and Pep Salvador.

This year there was classical music performed by Pauline Haas and Thomas Bloch playing a harp and a glass harmonica, the musical West Side Story with the backdrop of the Fortress of La Mola in the port of Mahon and some unique voices such as Marina Herlop and the crooner Alfonso de Vilallonga among many others.

But without doubt the great merit of this festival is that it seems hand woven, and thoughtfully planned with great love and honesty from the making of each hand made programme to the different scenes created in Lithica. The desire this year to stage activities and concerts outside the usual premises and towards the other side of the island is a sign of maturity.

It is definitely worth a visit.
