Complete interview

I am Óscar Reynés, Managing Director of Nautica Reynés, I am the second generation of our family business and I have been running the company for over 4 years.  Nautica Reynes is dedicated to everything related to recreational boating, from the most basic repair to any other type of nautical servicing.

How did it all begin? What are the origins of Náutica Reynés?
We began working in the nautical industry around 45 years ago. Initially, the company was not involved in the sale and storage of boats, it started as a company dedicated to bicycles and motorcycles and thanks to my father, Benito Reynes’ determination, hard work and effort, he put aside a comfortable and secure job, to risk everything for this company. We have grown from an office of approximately 40 square metres to what it is now. As a result, I must say that we are proud to have reached this point by our own means.

Besides selling boats, what other services do you offer?
We offer maintenance services, boat storage, but we also have one of the largest nautical shops in Menorca, in terms of the number of articles and references. We offer the sale of new and second-hand boats, and we work with everything from the latest electronics to carpentry and fibreglass. Our speciality is to store our clients’ boats so that they do not have to worry about anything during the rest of the year; they simply find their boat in its mooring, ready to enjoy it.

What is the purchasing process and experience like, and is it possible to try the boat before you buy it?
We know that the decision of buying a boat is complicated and difficult.  Sometimes, we do not have the possibility to have the boat from the moment the customer enters the shop. That is why it is very important to convey confidence and experience when it comes to accompanying the customer during the process of purchasing a boat, from the moment the customer enters the door until he receives it, with all the necessary advice so that when the customer receives the boat, it is the one he was looking for. Nowadays it is not always possible to test new boats on the water.

Here in Menorca, after the pandemic, have you experienced a boom in yachting? Why do you think this is?
After the pandemic there has been a “rage “, for everything that represents open space, getting out and escaping from what has kept us locked up and concerned during this time. Menorca has been one of the favourite destinations to come and get away from it all and there has been a very important increase, which has benefited all businesses, not only the nautical ones but all the tourist orientated businesses in Menorca.

What are the most popular boats this year?
In the past, the most popular boats were the ones that had a sleeping area, but nowadays most people want the maximum amount of space on deck, to accommodate the whole family with an outdoor dining area, a small bathroom and bedroom, prioritising the best daytime experience. They want all the comforts for the daytime period.

As experts of Menorca’s sea, if we had a boat, which magical place in Menorca would you recommend us to visit, the beaches located in the north or the south coast?
When it comes to recommending beaches in Menorca it is very difficult, there are beautiful beaches to be found on both the north and south coast. More than a beach, I would recommend getting up early and taking advantage of the first hours of the day to sail peacefully, without so many boats, as there are in the most central hours of the day, and to have this feeling of tranquillity and wellbeing that the whole coast of Menorca always offers.
