Oriental interior design trends: Jade

In recent years, the influence of the Orient on interior style, furniture and kitchen design has burst on to the scene as a trend that has come to stay. In Menorca more than a decade ago, Joan Vives and Ana Natta opened a shop in the center of Mahón as a true reflection of their experiences on the Asian continent.

Emulating Marco Polo on his way along the silk route, every year they travel thousands of kilometers to China to import furniture and decorative objects. A  passion for travel has turned into a business selling items of good taste. This includes a personal selection of special pieces such as chests of drawers, sideboards for halls and doors which are up to one hundred years old – perfect for decorating either the most modern housing or a ‘lloc’ in Menorca.

The collection ranges from vintage kimonos, lanterns and colorful Japanese pottery bowls for the kitchen to bridal furniture or even sensual opium beds, ideal for the garden or  the terrace, filled with cushions. Tibor vases and ginger jars  transport us beyond the confines of the east.

Inspiring ideas made of noble materials such as elm wood panels or doors, can work either as a headboard and as a hanging in a living room.  A visit to Jade with the chance to browse all that the store can offer, is to make an unforgettable trip in time.
