Talayotic Menorca Year

The candidature of Talayotic Menorca to join the UNESCO World Heritage List will be put to the test this year. The final decision will be taken in June 2017 but 2016 is going to be the key so that the 25 prehistoric sites selected can pass the test.

Expectations are very high because, just as once stated by the Council of Historic Heritage, the Talayotic culture of Menorca is a unique example in Mediterranean prehistory of an ancient civilization, present on the island and its landscape for 4,000 years, with a density and state of conservation of its monuments that can be considered exceptional.

Caparrot des Forma

We have already explained in this blog that our island has almost two monuments per square kilometre. Its density is really remarkable because with a surface area of 700 km2, which is what Menorca measures, there are 1,574 archaeological sites, 1,401 of which are catalogued as assets of cultural interest.

Comerma de sa Garita

The budget given over to ensuring these treasures attain universal recognition is more than four-hundred thousand euros, including promotion of the candidature itself and the actions undertaken of restoration, maintenance and sign posting.

Sa Torreta

At Bonnin Sansó we are sure that this goal will be achieved and this is why we joined from the beginning to show our support for the candidature.
