Menorca and France, united forever

Although for centuries now Menorca and France have kept an idyllic secret love affair alive, our small island has become of late a fashionable destination for the French tourist market. The relationship with France began in the 18th century, with the founding of the district of Sant Luis, in honour of the king of France, Luis XV. On the 18 April 1756 twelve thousand French soldiers landed on the beach of Santandria, at the service of the Duke of Richelieu, carried in a powerful fleet of ships. During their brief domination between 1756 and 1763, they also had time to create a very famous sauce, the name of which ended up as mayonnaise, inspired by the name of Mahón.

During this summer, the air companies have decided to join Menorca and France together again with the opening of six new direct flights. Thus you can fly directly from the international airports of Charles de Gaulle and Orly, from Lille, Lyon, Metz and Toulouse, enabling the number of French passengers visiting this marvellous island to be multiplied. Just by looking at the figures, which show that between April and October this year there were 88,000 seats for people, making it much easier for them to come and enjoy our sandy beaches in Menorca.

At Bonnin Sansó we have always been committed to the French market and since we opened more than 25 years ago, we have had French-speaking staff, and in recent years have provided them with French classes so that, as always, they can attend to clients in their own language.
