Menorca, European Region of Gastronomy

Everything is ready for Menorca to apply as a candidate for the European Region of Gastronomy 2022, a title that is the initiative for a platform of European regions that promotes the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT), which seeks to spread food cultures and gastronomic innovation among the different regions of the European continent. The candidature must be presented next September setting out an extensive programme of events planned for a whole year which contribute to achieving the visibility, viability, social cohesion and sustainability that promotes its foundations.  At the head of this project is the cultural promoter Jaume Gomila Saura, who was the Director General of Culture to the Balearic Government and who has instigated, together with various entities, that Menorca aspire to this recognition.

International Visibility

During the 365 days of this candidacy Menorca will receive visits from all the gastronomic regions who have previously been lucky enough to have been recognised.  For example, Aarhus in Denmark, Oriental Lombardy in Italy, North Brabans in the Netherlands, Sibiu in Transylvania or Kuopio in Finland.  We are assured by the promoters that this will lead to an increase in the local and international visibility of the island with a direct impact on both local industry, commerce, hospitality, agriculture and tourism. The drawing up of this dossier has been entrusted to the renowned consultant and gastronomic critic, Borja Matoses, who has the job of preparing the document that will be delivered to the evaluation committee.
