Winter sport in Menorca: Golf

If we have to thank the English for the providential introduction of gin to our island more than three hundred years ago, the maximum exponent of which is symbolized by the Xoriguer brand, we also owe to them the fact that today in Menorca there is a golf course. It was in the late eighties when the British Hugh Brown decided to fund the Club Son Parc with the idea of transforming that potato patch on what he played at the time and let run free his passion for this sport of Scottish origin.

Even though the commitment to this type of tourism has been very clear in Mallorca, which has 23 courses, Menorca has just one facility of these characteristics that attracts national golfers and from all over Europe, maintaining an enviable sporting activity throughout the year. Situated in the urbanization of Son Parc, in the district of Es Mercadal, it is reached via the ME-2 road and is located geographically between Arenal d’en Castell and the Bay of Fornells.

The course designer is Dave Thomas, a player in the prestigious Ryder Cup and sub-champion of the British Open. The development of the course was undertaken in several stages until becoming a regulatory 18-hole golf course. The course is open 365 days a year, offering golf classes for both new players and for those who want to perfect their swing. Moreover, they make every effort to ensure that all the family can play, regularly organizing tournaments and competitions for all levels throughout the year. One of their main obsessions has been to make playing golf possible for children and this is why there is an extensive training program, as well as agreements with the schools in Menorca to play golf.

Isn’t it a luxury to play golf on a sunny winter’s day with temperatures above 10º?
