Camí de Cavalls: From Es Grau to Favàritx

This month’s recommended excursion, following the circular route around Menorca that we are doing via the Camí de Cavalls, is the section that goes from Es Grau to Favàritx. It is a lovely route that goes inside the Natural Park of s’Albufera des Grau, which enjoys great environmental and scenic diversity. We can leave the car parked in the urbanisation of Es Grau, and walk to the start of today’s route, where we cross a coastal lagoon joined to the sea.

Cala Tamarells

The next point will be to pass along the beach of Es Grau, which stands out from the others due to its large dune system. From there we climb a small hill that provides us with a marvellous view of the urbanisation of Es Grau and the Lighthouse of Favàritx, with the defence tower of Sa Torreta. We then drop down to Cala Tamarells and from there follow the coast until we come to an old drinking trough.

Abeurador

The following cove we come to will be Sa Torreta and from there we begin a climb that takes us inland, with different sceneries of grazing land and crops. We return back to the coast in Cala Morella and beside it, the Arenal Morella, a wonderful long beach that has a lagoon behind with a large population of tamarisk trees.

Arenal de Morella

From here we reach the last climb that will lead us inland again, once more with landscapes of crops and dry stone walls, to leave us on the road that goes to the Lighthouse of Faváritx, which is well worth a visit as a reward.
