Camí de Cavalls: From Favaritx to Arenal d’en Castell

Today’s stage goes partly through the Natural Park of S’Albufera des Grau and partly along a section we described last month.

We begin exactly where we ended the last stage. When we leave the road, we go through a typical Menorca rural landscape with areas of crops, grazing land and Mediterranean bushes. After a steep descent, we reach the “Pou d’en Caldes”, where different endemic plants grow alongside each other. If we look carefully we can see as many as five different species of “socarrells”.

From here the way goes inland once again with Menorca agricultural scenery, going up and down. Before reaching the Salines de Mongofra, on the left we can see “Es Capell de Ferro”, some stunning rocky formations of eroded and reddish-coloured silicon mares stone. The saltings are an area of high ecological interest and an ideal spot for birdwatching.

After crossing this section of the saltings we reach Puerto de Addaya, a calm, natural harbour and well protected from the northerly winds. At this point we will have covered 10 kilometres and for those that may now be tired, we can finish the trip here. The remaining 3.5 kilometres are along the asphalted road until reaching the final destination of Arenal d’en Castell.
