Easter “Torrijas” Recipe

Just a few days away from Easter we wish to share with you the recipe for one of the most typical Easter desserts, the delicious “torrijas”,  they are really easy to do too, with guaranteed success, you only need basic everyday ingredients that you will without any doubt find in your kitchen.

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf of bread
  • 1 litre of milk
  • 100gr of sugar
  • The rind of a lemon
  • A cinnamon stick
  • Cinnamon powder
  • Two eggs
  • Olive oil

Preparation:

  1. Pour the milk in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add to the milk, the cinnamon stick and the lemon rind (without the white peel of the lemon to avoid the bitterness).
  3. Once it has started to boil, remove from the heat and let it cool down.
  4. Whilst cooling, cut the bread into slices, not very thin.
  5. Beat the eggs in a bowl to coat the French toast.
  6. Heat the oil in a frying pan or fryer
  7. Now it’s time to make them! First dip the slices of bread in the warm milk, and then dip in the egg and finally fry in the pan with hot oil, until golden brown.
  8. When you remove the bread slices from the pan, put them on a plate lined with absorbent kitchen paper to remove the excess oil.
  9. In a bowl add the sugar with the cinnamon powder, and mix well.
  10. Coat the torrijas with this mixture and let them cool.
  11. Serve and enjoy this delicious treat!

Bon Apetit!
